A Tribute to a Godly Wife and Mother
by the Rev Perry Smith of Belmont, NSW.
Modelled on the Bible picture in Proverbs ch 31, vv 10-31.
A godly woman is a treasure
as seen in both her work and leisure.
Her husband trusts her and is proud
to praise her qualities aloud.
Her children too are blessed indeed
with such a mother who will feed
them all, and plan her day so well
that things run smoothly. All can tell
she rises early and works long;
her faith and her physique are strong.
Her speech is gracious and so kind,
she has a sensitivity of mind
so clearly seen towards the poor,
with open heart and hand and door.
She has no fear of tough conditions -
no gnawing, fearful premonitions.
The future, as the past, is sure,
for God's own promises endure.
No shallow charm born of deceit
is here, because her own heart-beat
is tuned to God's, and faith in him
brings beauty that will never dim.
Her gracious living is so clear
that many people hold her dear.
So let us all now thank the Lord
for this description in his Word.
Then thank him too that we can see
the mark of faith's integrity
in women here and now, who know
God's hand upon their lives, and show
what godly womanhood can be
for husband, home and family.
Praise God, because in whom we see this Scripture lived out faithfully.
