based on Chapter 15 of The Gospel of John
This great secret of abiding,
let me know it better, Lord.
We have heard so much about it,
for it's rooted in God's Word.
In the Upper Room especially,
in the Gospel of St John,
You so clearly call us to it
to ensure that self is gone.
All its sinful, self-assertion,
all its selfishness and pride,
making room, my blessed Saviour,
for you then to dwell inside.
Come abide, dear Lord, and may it
not be ‘I' but ‘Christ' in me,
loving you and your commandments,
living for you faithfully.
Dwelling in your Word, obedient,
taking every step in prayer;
living in a precious union
with my Jesus everywhere.
Then Lord, it will mean that others
looking on will clearly see
your own grace and love and
beauty flowing freely all through me.
