SEEDS FOR HARVESTING 5/34
Matt. 14:38
"Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water."
Already Jesus had fed the 5000
with the extra miracle of 12 baskets full left over.
Already He had said to the disciples in the boat
"Take courage it is I , do not be afraid".
We talk about doubting Thomas
what about doubting Peter?
Peter's fear of ghosts
and needing more proof that it was really Jesus
was expressing in words the deep feelings he was experiencing.
"Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water".
There is no indication here that Peter had any faith in himself
to walk on the water, even if Jesus called him.
He did not say "call me and I will come".
We should never come to Jesus in doubt.
Yet we do.
We should never begin our prayers with the words
"If this is your will."
Yes - we have to ask for only those things
that are in accordance with God's will.
And if we have any doubts
then the Holy Spirit will sort those out.
If we begin in doubt then we should not be asking.
A prerequisite for answered prayer is always implicit faith
that Jesus will hear and will answer
according to the Father's will.
