Paul’s New Testament words that have inspired the Rev Perry Smith(87) in his ministry through the years
Acts 20: 21 and 24 ‘I have declared: Turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus Christ … If only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given to me – the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace’
I Corinthians 2: 2 and 4 ‘I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Christ and him crucified … preaching not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power’.
I Corinthians 4: 5 ‘We do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake’.
I Corinthians 9: 16-17 ‘I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel. I am simply discharging the trust committed to me’.
II Corinthians 4: 5 “We do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.
I Corinthians 16:9 ‘A great door for effective work has opened to me’.
I am so aware how GOD opened so many doors of opportunity into my appointed churches and extra chaplaincies to the Australian Army, Air Force, industries, a hospital, and ‘Supply’ ministries in churches, and other doors into Conventions and Evangelistic Missions. I still receive invitations from churches around Newcastle and fulfil my ordination vows to preach the Word. I do not want to stop preaching!
‘Send me, Lord, where Thou wilt send me,
Only do Thou guide my way;
May Thy grace through life attend me,
Gladly then shall I obey.’
(John Burton, Methodist Hymn Book 395, v.3)
‘My remnant of days I spend in His praise,
Who died the whole world to redeem:
Be they many or few, my days are His due,
And they all are devoted to Him.’
(Charles Wesley, Methodist Hymn Book 874, v.7)
