Eph 6:17-18
“The sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.
Pray at all times in the Spirit ”.
Paul wraps it all up in a tidy package.
It’s to do with living through the Word of God
and being led by the Spirit.
Where does the “sword” fit into this picture?
The sword is one of the weapons,
which protects us from the enemy.
The sword of the spirit.
The sword of faith.
The breastplate of righteousness.
The helmet of salvation.
All these protect us from the attack of the enemy, Satan.
All of this only becomes personal for us
when we recognise that our total protection
is in Jesus through the Holy Spirit.
Our protection is through the “sword of the spirit”,
and by “praying in the Spirit”.
The Word seems to be saying to us
that all of life is warfare.
In this age there is nothing
of all of our technological advancements
that can protect us from an attack by the enemy.
The Word’s answer to this is that we must
“take up the full armor of God”
and “stand firm”.
The joy of the Psalmist is
“The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want”.
And that “thou hast enclosed me behind and before and laid
Thy hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful but true for me”.
