Eph 4:15

“Speaking the truth in love,
we will grow up in Him who is the head that is Christ”.

Jesus says to us through the Living Word,
“I am the truth” and
“you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free”.
We can realize that truth through the Holy Spirit in Jesus.
Then we can read, hear and understand this “Truth”
in the Living Word, in worship and song.
But God’s truth only become a living reality
through Jesus’ love for us.

As God’s truth is always the same, yesterday,
today and forever so is His love for us.
God’s love and truth never fail.
These are certainties in our lives that are self-generating.
They don’t need to be transformed into something better.
So we are given two gifts of God that are eternally reliable. We can base our whole life on them.
We can allow our whole minds, hearts and spirits
to be filled with them.
Then we know with certainty that we are building
on the Rock and not on sand.

And what of the future of our congregation and church?
We can with confidence
“grow up into Him who is the Head”.
What a wonderful promise this is.
This “truth” and ”love” can become the foundation
upon which we can build this new year.
Jesus says twice in John 14
“this is My commandment
(not an option) that you love one another
as I have loved you”.
Love and truth are not qualities we discover
they are gifts that God offers us through His Holy Spirit.
